Curriculum for excellence encourages children to make progress across learning by developing their learning and thinking skills. Self-assessment supports this and helps mould pupils into responsible citizens by giving them ownership over their learning and progress. This investigation will hopefully highlight successful self-assessment strategies and their positive impact on pupil learning.
The aims of this enquiry was to investigate what impact self-assessment has on pupils learning in a design environment as part of Broad General Education (BGE). Self-assessment strategies to be investigated were:
- The use of traffic light cups as ongoing self-assessment throughout each period.
- The use of an exit strategy as a means to self-assess the overall performance in the lesson and to target set for the following lesson.
